So in a few hours I’ll be heading to Vegas for NetRoots Nation 2010. I’ll be there with Susan Mernit repping Oakland Local and getting the skinny on online organizing and media projects around the country. Read the rest of this entry »
Collaboration, network building, technology, thrown in with some whimsy and rhythm: these are the protest and political action tools that get me excited these days. And just like I’ve been advocating for journalists and media to expand their ideas on what, exactly, compromises News and Journalism, I’ve been looking more into the social justice and grassroots organizing worlds for collabs and innovative campaigns that combine the best of new media coalition building and tech.

Of frightening name?
Nobody loves a genius child.
Kill him — and let his soul run wild.

Actually if you’ve never thought about it you probably need to see this film even more. Read the rest of this entry »

And no, that’s not a hyperbole. Gil Scot Heron is seriously magic.
While I was shocked a couple of days ago when I found out that Lucille Clifton had passed, finding out that Heron has released a new album on Feb. 9 makes the hurt a little easier to swallow.
While Mrs. Clifton’s death was a major tragedy, I’m New Here is a reminder that there are still some bright, creative stars out there, shining the good shine. Read the rest of this entry »
