The cats over at Oakland Digital Arts and Media Center have been doing some really good work. And there have been a lot of these music and media conferences lately. It’s good to see one with more of an urban focus.

Gil Scot Heron Returns to Save the World
And no, that’s not a hyperbole. Gil Scot Heron is seriously magic.
While I was shocked a couple of days ago when I found out that Lucille Clifton had passed, finding out that Heron has released a new album on Feb. 9 makes the hurt a little easier to swallow.
While Mrs. Clifton’s death was a major tragedy, I’m New Here is a reminder that there are still some bright, creative stars out there, shining the good shine. (more…)
